Once a candidate has accepted a verbal offer, it’s time to draw up the official letter of employment offer. This letter outlines the terms of the business relationship that the new hire is about to enter with the company. The document also provides a negotiation starting point if any terms are questioned or rejected by the new hire.
The definition of all terms of the offer must be crystal clear since the last thing either party wants is fuzziness about expectations, which could cause trouble on the new hire’s first day, or down the road.
The basic ground to cover in a letter of employment offer includes specifics on the new hire’s job title, salary, and start date/time. Separately enclose any additional, contingency-based documents that need signing (such as a non-disclosure agreement). Clearly state the return dates for those documents in the letter. Finally, including unambiguous direction on how to accept the job offer via signature – and the due date – is also a must.
Check out the letter of employment offer sample below for guidance on the basics.

Conclusion
This letter of employment offer sample clearly details what the job offer entails. All basics that a new hire would want in writing—job title, start date, annual salary, and pay periods, to name a few, are covered up front, in language that leaves no room for misinterpretation.
Additional documents are frequently included along with a letter of employment offer. Spell out in no uncertain terms how and when these documents should be signed and returned especially if employment is contingent upon their completion.
This letter of employment offer sample contains information on at-will employment. If you enforce at-will employment, always define what that means, and state that the signing of the offer signifies that the new hire understands they’re at will.
Take notice of how the letter of employment offer sample begins and closes in a rather ebullient manner. While this is a professional document, it is appropriate to convey some excitement. You want the new hire to feel enthusiastic about getting the job and to be looking forward to the first day.
Before sending out a letter of employment offer, always have your legal department review to make sure all necessary information is included and that your language isn’t offensive or discriminatory.
