4 Secrets to Creating a More Positive Company Culture
In order to create a more positive company culture, you need to invest in your employees. If your employees are constantly drained and feel unappreciated, then they are not going to work as proficiently. They may also decide they want to find work elsewhere, and a high turnover rate can be stressful and inefficient. You need to actively take steps to motivate your employees and banish any negative thoughts they have about themselves or their work. There are four simple ways to accomplish this goal, and once you see the results, you will see a drastic change in work ethic.
Programming Mindsets to Be Positive
You are likely familiar with the concept of cause and effect. In your company, your employees’ thoughts should be considered the cause, and their work output should be viewed as the effect. If a person has a lot of positive thoughts, then he or she is more likely to take the necessary steps to accomplish goals. Conversely, negative people tend to think about why they can never do something and constantly blame others for shortcomings. One way to get a glimpse into your employees’ heads is to ask them what they think about often. You can encourage more positive thoughts and a more positive company culture by clearly establishing goals that are challenging but still achievable. By accomplishing smaller tasks successfully, your employees will be more open to taking on more tasks because they know they can do it.
Reaping What You Sow
Farmers put in a lot of hard work to plant and grow crops, but all that time and energy pays off when harvest comes around. There is a tangible result from all their effort, and you need to instill the same belief in your employees. Having employees work hard but never see the fruits of their labor can cause them to wonder what the point of all of it is. Your team needs to be working towards a clear goal, and once that accomplishment is reached, you can reward accordingly. While employees will definitely appreciate a raise or bonus, a simple acknowledgement of their hard work is still good. Ultimately, creating a more positive company culture means there needs to be a reason for everything or else your employees will feel like they are just doing busy work.
Three P’s
The way you think about your work and responsibilities can play a huge role in how productive you really are. Encourage your employees to abide by the three P’s:
-Positive
-Present
-Personal
First, you need to phrase thoughts in your head in positive ways. For example, instead of saying, ïI don’t know how to do this,ï you should rephrase it to be, ïI can learn how to do this.ï The second P refers to talking about what you want in the present tense. Do not focus on events in the past and do not feel overwhelmed by what will be coming in the future. This will help you manifest your desires into reality. Finally, being personal means you phrase thoughts to start with ïI.ï Do not have thoughts like, ïThis person is getting in the way.ï Phrase your thoughts to be, ïI can overcome this obstacle.ï
Power of Positive Affirmation
You need to constantly foster a more positive company culture, and an ideal way to do this is to develop your employees’ self-confidence. You have likely heard the phrase, ïYou are what you eat.ï With this, the phrase should be rewritten to be, ïYou are what you think.ï If people always refer to themselves positively and have a good self-image, then when bad things happen, they are less likely to allow those bad thoughts to permeate their work ethic. Developing positive affirmations is almost like creating an immune system. Instead of thinking, ïI am a failure and cannot do this,ï when something stressful happens, your employees will think, ïI am strong enough to get through this.ï An easy way to build a culture of positive affirmations is to have a company-wide positive mantra that you regularly say. This mantra can appear throughout the building or come at the end of every company email.
Most business owners probably do not send out negative messages to their employees, but being apathetic toward your employees’ well-being can be just as detrimental. Encourage positivity and a more positive company culture so that employees look forward to going into work in the morning.
