They have many responsibilities, including reading specifications and blueprints, making recommendations for adjustments to assembly and production processes, determining whether to accept or reject items, inspecting and testing materials and products, and reporting on inspection results.
When writing a quality technician job description, make sure to include the qualities needed to do the job. For example, quality technicians must have outstanding dexterity so they can quickly sort through items and remove the parts they need during the manufacturing process.

Quality Technician Job Responsibilities
Much like you want to know an applicant’s experience before extending a job offer, jobseekers want to know what a job entails before applying. That’s why the job responsibilities section of your quality technician job description is so fundamental. By letting jobseekers know what to expect in terms of the position’s daily duties, you’ll help inform their decision about applying and ideally spark the enthusiasm of those most qualified.
There are a few key strategies you can use to make this section clear and effective. First, remember that a large chunk of text in paragraph form is difficult to read. Therefore, list the responsibilities in your quality technician job description in bullet-point form. Although this section should be thorough as it’s one of the most crucial, you should aim for no more than eight bulleted items, each starting with a strong verb. This lets quality technicians know what they would be doing if hired by your company.
Here are some sample quality technician job responsibilities:
- Run quality tests on items throughout the production process, from raw materials to intermediate stages to final product
- Use test results to recommend changes to the production process as necessary for efficiency and quality
- Document quality ratings and results in proprietary database
- Inspect all received materials to ensure adherence to company quality standards
- Maintain cleanliness and clean all equipment in the testing area
- Adhere to quality assurance testing protocols and standards set by industry leaders
Quality Technician Job Specifications
Sometimes, people rush through writing the job qualifications and skills section of their job descriptions because this section can seem relatively brief and simple at first glance. However, remember that this part of your quality technician job description is where many jobseekers will immediately look as they try to determine whether they qualify for the position. Therefore, the best way to deter would-be applicants from submitting their resumes if they lack qualifications is to spend a little more time on this section.
Don’t be afraid to list exactly what you need in a candidate. If you’re unsure what this includes, meet with the hiring manager or the job’s supervisor to find out exactly what specifications you need to list. This can strengthen your quality technician job description, as it will make this section more specific to the position. Check with these individuals to see if there are certain specifications that they require and others that they simply desire, and feel free to include both with clear language that communicates the “must-haves” and the “nice-to-haves” to jobseekers.
